This is the first book of the series. The story, set in Mid Wales, takes place just before the First World War, before road building drove the Llandoddies to live on the island on the Llandrindod Lake. Llandoddies are little folk smaller than a mobile phone.
When out on a fishing trip in their coracle, Big Dewi and Little Dewi, with their friend Essie, come upon a Grog war-party and discover the Grogs - evil half reptile, half gnome - intend to attack the Doddie village of Aberdod with the objective of running off with the Doddie cakes and the women who bake them.
The humour ranges from slap-stick to Pythonesque, the pace fast and furious, with a wide range of characters. |

| The
raven then swept down beside a tall hedgerow and over
a garden wall and then flew beneath a washing-line.
As they shot past Dewis antennae caught a pair
of Mrs Gruffydd-Pughs enormous knickers, and wrenching
them off the clothes-line, they wrapped themselves round
Dewi and his antennae. He could see nothing. They weaved
round to the front garden where Mrs Gruffydd Pugh was
tending her hollyhocks. She stood up just in time to
see her Sunday best knickers fly past at speed. |
